J4 came out two years ago. J5 came out in October (2023).

Difficulties you might encounter - yes they are numerous.

If you are not using any extensions (not even Akeeba Backup???) then it may be more straight forward than using a lot of third party extensions or template.

In any case, you need to first ensure you're on Joomla 3.10 to update to 4.x. A pre-update check will run, and notify you of potential issues. It's up to you to act on the advice, such as updating extensions or template. That may not be applicable in your case.

For J4 to J5, there's more to consider including the minimum requirements for J5 which differ significantly from J3.10 or J4. (See https://manual.joomla.org/docs/next/get ... uirements/). Your current host may not qualify to run J5. That's the first thing to sort out. And then as above, compatibility of extensions, templates etc with J5, and with the hosting requirements (such as minimum PHP 8.1 where extensions may not be guaranteed to work with it).

If you don't use mod_jantivirus, then uninstall it. If it's not working it will likely get flagged as a potential problem. Leaving it disabled should reduce that risk.

By whatever means at your disposal, make sure you backup your existing site, before doing any updates or migration.
